Former UCLA and Los Angeles Dodgers standout Tim Leary is a graduate of UCLA , was a three-year letterman on the mound. He finished his career with a 21-15 record and a 3.09 ERA with 258 strikeouts, the fourth highest total in school history. Leary pitched 16 complete games while at UCLA, which is still the school’s all-time record. He was selected to The Sporting News All-America squad and earned Academic All-American honors in 1979. In 1991 Leary was elected to the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame, joining Jackie Robinson and former American League President Dr. Bobby Brown as the only baseball inductees.
Leary was selected by the New York Mets with the second pick of the first round in the 1979 baseball draft. He pitched professionally for 15 years, and spent 10 of those years in the majors with the New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers.
His best season was in 1988 when he helped lead the Dodgers to the World Series Championship. He was named as the National League Comeback Player of the Year, finishing the season with a 17-11 record and a 2.90 ERA. He ranked second in the National League in shutouts (six), fifth in complete games (nine) and sixth in wins (17) and strikeouts (180). He allowed just one run over six and two thirds innings (1.35 ERA) in two World Series. Evan is one of our best instructors. A varsity player out of St. Monica High School, he continued his baseball career at West Los Angeles College and now plays collegiately for Lesley University. Coach Swift coaches our 8U and 10U club teams and leads our specialty pitching camps!

Originally from Massachusetts, Brian Loud played varsity ball at Norton High School. He coached For the Bulldog Baseball Academy in New York City. His patience and dedication to his craft makes him and ideal coach for SMBA!

Coach Renick has taught for over 25 years as a public school educator and baseball coach. Currently, the coach of the middle school baseball team at the Milken Community School in Los Angeles as well as their high school tennis program. Coach Renick has coached at baseball academies as well as travel teams and is well versed in youth baseball and the best way to get them to the next level!
Jihad was a stand out varsity player out of Fairfax high school, who took his talents to Cal State University Dominguez Hills, played summer league at West Los Angeles College and is now playing for San Francisco State University! He coached our 12U Club Team during the Spring and Summer of last year and led them to an amazing experience where they grew and developed into one heck of a team!
Coach Angel was a sandlot legend, Little League star and a high school varsity leader and baller! He's now playing collegiately at Cal State LA and looking to get to the show! In his down time he gives back and he's ready to spread his middle infield knowledge to the youth at SMBA! He coaches our SMBA 10u Club Team and they love him!
Coach Bryant Colon baseball career has taken him to different states around the country such as Cooperstown, Arizona, Las Vegas, Colorado as well as playing baseball in Mexico. A superb middle infielder he was a 4 year high school varsity team player and has taken his talents to to LA Valley College and pursuing a 4 year university program!

An outstanding varsity baseball player in high school he continued his career playing at Fairleigh Dickinson University in NJ. Jason was named to the 2010-2018 all decade team at FDU and received all tournament team for the Northeast Conference playoffs in 2016. He has tons of great energy, passion and loves the game!
Bruce Yamamoto played varsity baseball at Venice High school and signed to play professionally out of high school. He now plays professional baseball in the Shikoku Island Minor League in Japan! He wants to give back to the westside community and loves to coach our younger players on the finer points of the game!
A graduate of Hawthorne high school, he made all league his junior and senior year and MVP his senior year. He played college ball at Cal State Dominguez Hills out of high school, then at West LA College where he earned first team all conference and is now a scholarship athlete at Cal State San Marcos University!
Frank "Doc" Estes is a product of Southern California Lutheran high school and Cal State Fullerton university. He played professional baseball with the Blue Jays and Atlanta Braves organizations. Currently he is a hitting instructor at Lynwood high school and the MLB Youth academy.

Coach Nick played varsity baseball attending college and is playing for the PCBL Warriors. This past season his team won the double AA championship! He is coaching our SMBA 10U club team and coaching at our camps! He brings his love of the game to his instruction and it shows!
Since he was seven, Tristan Gallegos was a ball player through and through! Tristan brings a wealth of baseball knowledge with him and he is currently playing at West LA College. Tristan played baseball at our very own Santa Monica high school and was awarded First Team League Honors three years in a row! He specializing in the middle infield position and knows what young players need to up their game for elite play!
Straight out of Thousand Oaks High School, RHP Brian Strasburger loves the game of baseball! I love baseball. If I could, it would be all I would ever do with my life because playing baseball in the MLB is a dream come true. The SMBA Summer Camp Counselor in Training (CIT) Program is open to ninth grade students and above who are currently enrolled in high school for the 2019-20 school year and actively participating on their high school baseball or softball team. The CIT position is part student athlete/counselor. CIT’s will both participate in camps and
The SMBA Summer Camp Counselor in Training (CIT) Program is open to ninth grade students and above who are currently enrolled in high school for the 2019-20 school year and actively participating on their high school baseball or softball team. The CIT position is part student athlete/counselor. CIT’s will both participate in camps and assist the SMBA staff in leading groups and ensuring the camp runs smoothly. CIT’s will be paid for camp.
SMBA CIT applicants must complete the application for the position no later than Friday, June 14. They will be notified of acceptance by SMBA staff. Applicants with scholarship offers or planning on playing in college will be given extra consideration.
