SMBA is excited to be selected by the Santa Monica Pony league as the coaching staff for their first ever National 16U team!
While we had hoped for at least one practice before the high school baseball season moved into high gear the weather has not been cooperative. We believe high school should be the priority. With the talent we have assembled we are quite confident in them coming together nicely after their season of high school seamlessly.
Mid to early May through August 2024 is our projection
The coaching staff will be comprised of former MLB and LA Dodger Pitcher, Brentwood High School varsity pitching coach Tim Leary, former MLB player and Brentwood JV coach, Joshua Ravins, former MLB player and SMBA 11U coach, Tyler Mortensen, former Cal State LA catcher John Pacheco, former Fullerton and St. Monica Prep JV coach Robinson McGiffin, current SMBA 14U team coach and former collegiate player Jihad Hoffman with Santa Monica Baseball Academy, Athletic Director Wes Terry. Coaches will be training all players to elevate their level of play to showcase their immense talents at these events. As coaches, they have selected players to this roster who they think can best represent Santa Monica Pony and the City of Santa Monica at its highest level. We know that this is a busy time for these players and we want them to be able to participate in family events, school events and individual projects. But as a team, the best player is the most available player. During this time, this team is the priority. Your PONY player’s future is our priority and this team will benefit from that focused intent. As a league, we reserve the right to cut a player for behavior, non-participation or lack of development. The coaching staff is here to give every player a fair and honest evaluation with realistic guidance towards their goals.
Potentially begin mid-May if not sooner dependent upon each high school’s post-season play. It is structured with a minimum of 2x maybe 3x practices a week with at least 2x coaches. Pending final permit approval, we expect practices to be held 5-7PM Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday
Finally, SMBA is grateful as an academy to provide this opportunity to our baseball community. We know families have many choices and hope that this team will be at the top of yours. It is our firm belief by working and training these players under the guidance of the SM Pony league we can best support them towards their future! Our goal is for the players in our Santa Monica community to get every opportunity to achieve their baseball goals and we are here to help!
Hello Players,
